Starting from the revolution which has involved all the factors of production (land, labour, capital and organization) of port economies and the Italian territorial landscape, leading to the creation of systems of interrelated municipalities, we will try to theoretically corroborate the thesis that employment is capital to evaluate the local economic impact of ports. From the empiric point of view, after having highlighted the economic sectors which seem to be statistically and positively interrelated with port economies, we will try to link the dynamics of employment with the dynamics of maritime freights in the Euro-adriatic region, and, more specifically, in the port of Ancona. The aim is to quantify the number of employees related to port economies, to infer port attitude to generate local economic wealth and to forecast their possible evolutionary trajectories in the mid term.
